Candle Care

Each Embers and Serenity candle is hand-poured with coconut apricot wax and a wooden wick — materials chosen for their clean burn and gentle crackle. With a little care, your candle will reward you with an even, fragrant burn from the very first light to the last.

The First Burn Is Everything

Allow your candle to burn until the entire surface has melted to the edges on its first use — this is called a full melt pool. Coconut apricot wax has memory; if you extinguish it too soon, it will tunnel down the center and waste precious wax. Plan for 2–3 hours on your first burn.

Burn Within Safe Time Limits

Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Extended burns can cause the wick to shift, the glass to overheat, and the scent to become overwhelming. Let the candle cool completely — at least 2 hours — before relighting.

Trim Your Wick Before Every Burn

Before each lighting, trim your wooden wick to about 3–4 mm (⅛ inch). A shorter wick keeps the flame low and steady, prevents soot, and ensures an even burn. Use wick trimmers or small scissors — never leave a long wick unattended.

Keep the Wax Pool Clean

Remove any wick trimmings, matches, or debris from the wax pool before burning. Foreign objects can ignite and cause uneven burning or, in rare cases, a flare-up. A clean wax pool is a safe wax pool.

Store With Care

Keep your candle away from direct sunlight, drafts, and humidity. Coconut apricot wax is sensitive to temperature swings — store in a cool, dry place with the lid on to protect the fragrance and prevent dust from settling on the surface.

Know When to Say Goodbye

Stop burning when about 10 mm (½ inch) of wax remains at the bottom. Burning below this level can cause the glass to overheat. At this point, clean out the remaining wax and repurpose the vessel — our jars make beautiful holders for small plants, jewelry, or cotton rounds.

A note on wooden wicks

Wooden wicks crackle softly as they burn — that gentle sound is intentional. They may occasionally need a second light if the flame goes out; simply trim any charred wood and relight. If your wick struggles to stay lit, it is likely too long. Trim it back and try again.

Why we cure for 14 days

After pouring, every Embers and Serenity candle rests for a minimum of 14 days before it leaves our studio. This curing period allows the fragrance to fully bind with the wax, resulting in a stronger, more complex scent throw when you burn it. Good things take time.
